Are you looking for halal restaurants in downtown Toronto? As a tourist, you may be heading to downtown to check out the hustle bustle this city has to offer. Perhaps, you might be meeting an acquaintance for lunch or you already work in the downtown core. Whatever it may be, you will rarely run out of halal restaurants downtown Toronto.
As a new Canadian, when I started working in downtown a couple of years ago, I was hesitant to go up to restaurant counters and ask them if their meat or chicken was halal. I didn’t know how they would react, considering the racist horror stories I’ve heard about the US.
And in my hesitation to make an effort to find new halal restaurants, I was missing out on so much.
My reluctance was further fuelled by my preconceived notion: How many halal restaurants could there be at best? Especially in downtown, Toronto.
It was not until I spent a couple of years working in downtown, that I realized how wrong I was. There are many halal places in downtown, among which, some are quite well-known. While others never had any online presence, and so, are never talked about.
Many halal restaurants don’t even market themselves as a place serving halal food in Toronto (or maybe they don’t know how to?)
How Many Halal Restaurants Are There In Downtown?
In the last 2 years, I have found so many halal restaurants in downtown, that I can’t even give you a figure on the top of my head. And this is why I decided to put together this blog to help people like myself, to find not only the obvious halal places, but also the hidden halal food gems and restaurants in downtown, Toronto.
If you thought eating out at halal places in downtown, Toronto would be a challenge, don’t be deceived. You might not find as many halal options in other cities across Canada, but you have numerous halal food restaurants if you live in Toronto.
If you don’t prefer to eat at restaurants that serve alcohol, you might have to call and check with them. Also, if you prefer to avoid restaurants that also serve non-halal meat to avoid the risks of cross-contamination, it is best to check in before you decide to eat at any of these places.
This list includes all restaurants that serve Halal food as either an option on the menu, label themselves Halal, or use a supplier that is known to deliver Halal meat.
Best Halal Restaurants Downtown Toronto
If you’re tired of eating average quality shawarma and falafel from that corner halal restaurant, you will appreciate this list.
We’ve included the best halal places in downtown offering a variety of cuisines from Thai to American. I’ve personally eaten at most of these restaurants, and will be writing reviews for each one of them at a later date.
Here are the top halal restaurants downtown Toronto has to offer. Don’t forget to do your own due diligence and ask the restaurant about their meat sources and suppliers, because circumstances might change.
1. Top Gun Burgers and Steak
Owned by a Turkish Muslim guy, the gourmet burgers and steak sandwiches that this place sells are probably the best I’ve ever had. It is one of the top halal restaurants in Toronto that I love to go to. Because of the high demand, there can be occasional delays in your order, but the quality of their food and their customer service makes up for it.

2. Flock Rotisserie
I love rotisserie chicken, and was really struggling to find a halal rotisserie restaurant in Toronto. Flock Rotisserie was near my workplace, and I used to pass it by everyday drooling over the possibility of having halal rotisserie chicken. It was not until one day I felt like having a salad and stepped into this cosy place, and it didn’t take time for my green-day to turn into a chicken-day.

3. Paramount Fine Foods
Unlike many people, I cannot get bored of eating shawarma every day. I crave the garlic-ky flavor combined with pickles and tender shawarma meat. Though a little pricey than your corner shawarma shops, the halal shawarma and the variety of Lebanese mezze that you will find at Paramount Fine Foods is quite delicious. However, I’ve noticed inconsistencies in the quality of their food in different branches. And till date, I’ve found the Bay and Bloor St outlet to be the best.

4. The Halal Guys Toronto
The Halal Guys have a great reputation coming into Canada from the south of the border. When Halal Guys Toronto opened up, I was one of the first ones to queue up to get my hands on their halal wraps. Personally, I didn’t think it lived up to the hype in Toronto (at least for me), but if you’ve tried it let us know how you liked it in the comments below.
- 563 Yonge St, Toronto, ON M4Y 1Z2
5. Cluck Clucks
I’m a big fan of fried chicken. But not all fried chickens are created equal. Halal fried chicken at Popeyes does not satisfy my fried chicken cravings, so I have always been on the lookout for a better one. And I finally found it 2 months ago when I went to Cluck Clucks with a few friends and my wife. Cluck Clucks serves American Style Halal Chicken & Waffles, and it is a must try if you haven’t tried it already. It is also reasonably priced. Make sure you get the massive T’wacko sandwich!
- 222 The Esplanade, Toronto, ON M5A 4M8
If you’re looking for some halal Thai restaurants in Toronto, and you haven’t been to Sukhothai, you have been missing out big time. I took my wife here for one of our special nights and we loved the ambience and the food here. Their menu usually displays a “we proudly serve halal” sign which we were very pleased to see. Don’t forget to try their appetizers, the halal khao-suey, pad thai, and a variety of green and red curries. This place serves alcohol, so you might want to avoid it if that is not what you prefer.
